HAM is in Tennis Palace in Kamppi, right next to the shopping centre, metro, and central public transport links. The museum presents the City of Helsinki's own art collection, public art, and changing contemporary-art exhibitions. For families, the Tove Jansson Gallery is an especially easy starting point: the current Artist Family Jansson exhibition includes images, objects, peek-in hatches, touchable materials, and drawing.

- Accessibility
- Tennis Palace is accessible, but the main entrance has thresholds over 2 cm high and there are no accessible parking spaces immediately next to the building. HAM's entrance is on the second floor, easiest to reach by lifts C and D; there is a lift between exhibition floors. The museum has an accessible toilet, a changing table, wheelchairs, strollers, a baby carrier, seats to borrow, an induction loop at the ticket counter, and access for guide and service dogs.
Plan your visit
- Practical notes
- The ticket counter and museum entrance are on the second floor of Tennis Palace. The free cloakroom is opposite the ticket counter, with lockable lockers nearby; large bags, backpacks, umbrellas, and outdoor clothing should be stored there. Snacks are not allowed in the exhibition spaces, but the museum has several spaces for eating your own snacks and breastfeeding, and staff can advise when needed.
- Opening-hours notes
- Official opening hours are Mon closed, Tue 10:00-17:00, Wed-Fri 11:00-19:00, and Sat-Sun 11:00-17:00. Ticket sales end half an hour before the museum closes. Check exceptional opening hours before going; 2026 closure days include Midsummer 19.-21.6.2026, Independence Day 6.12.2026, and Christmas holidays 24.-26.12.2026.
- Booking notes
- A normal family visit usually does not need a booking. Tickets can be bought at Tennis Palace or online, and a free under-18 ticket can also be reserved in advance. Guided tours, groups, schools, and private art workshops are booked separately following HAM's instructions.
- Price notes
- Adult admission is EUR 20 and reduced admission is EUR 12. Under-18s and Museum Card holders enter free of charge. In 2026 the museum has free admission on almost every last Friday of the month from 11:00 to 19:00, plus Helsinki Day on 12.6.2026 and Tove Jansson and Finnish Art Day on 9.8.2026.
- Age notes
- Best for children around 5-12 who can look, pause, and talk about art with an adult. With preschoolers, keep the visit short and follow the child's own favourites; HAM's children's guidance encourages adults to view works from a child's perspective, move calmly, and take snack breaks in the lobby.
- Seasonal notes
- The museum operates year-round, but exhibition content and the most child-engaging parts change. Of the current exhibitions, KOKIMO: Tablescape ends on 23.8.2026 and Magdalena Abakanowicz: Crossing Boundaries on 30.8.2026, so check the exhibition status before a late-summer or autumn visit.
- Weather notes
- A good rainy-day, cold-day, and windy-day option because the museum visit is indoors and Kamppi is easy to reach by public transport.
