Hietaranta is one of Helsinki's most popular beaches and sits close to the city centre with good transport connections. In the summer season, families can use the sandy beach, lifeguard supervision, changing shelters, showers, toilets, café, ice-cream kiosk, outdoor gym, and basketball and beach-volley courts. Before a beach day, it is worth checking water temperature, water quality, and blue-green algae information.

Accessibility
The city page says the beach is accessible during lifeguard hours: a wheelchair mat is placed on the beach and a floating bathing chair is available from lifeguards on request. Routes still include steps, a ramp, and a steep section.

Plan your visit

Practical notes
The beach is supervised in summer. Water quality, temperature, and blue-green algae information should be checked through ulkoliikunta.fi on the beach day.
Opening-hours notes
The beach is a public outdoor area. In 2026, the lifeguard and service season is 1.6.–9.8.2026 daily 10:00–20:00. The cafe building's toilets, dressing rooms, and indoor showers close at 19:30, while changing shelters and outdoor showers stay open around the clock.
Booking notes
A normal beach visit does not require booking.
Price notes
The beach is free. Café, kiosk, and other purchases cost extra.
Age notes
Suitable for many child ages, but young children need constant adult supervision near the water.
Seasonal notes
The best season is the summer swimming season, when supervision and services operate.
Weather notes
A beach day depends on weather, water temperature, wind, and blue-green algae conditions.
