Kumpula Botanic Garden is a six-hectare outdoor garden on the historic grounds of Kumpula manor. In the geographical collection, plants are arranged by their regions of origin, so a walk can take families from Europe to North America, Japan, and the Far East. The cultivated-plant collection presents useful plants, medicinal herbs, spices, fruit, berries, and ornamental plants. For families, it works as a calm summer outing where children can move at their own pace, look for the origins of familiar food plants, and stop for snacks.

- Accessibility
- Luomus says the garden can be used during opening hours with both wheelchairs and strollers. Paths are gravel, and there are some steep hills that can be avoided with gentler routes. The garden does not have accessible parking. The cafe facilities are accessible but cramped in places, and the cafe building has an accessible toilet with a changing table. After 18, exit is through a turnstile that does not accommodate strollers, wheelchairs, or bicycles.
Plan your visit
- Practical notes
- Tickets are bought at the garden cafe. Kumpula manor is closed to the public because geological collections are being moved, so the main visit is the outdoor garden. There are snack tables in the garden, and picnics are allowed on mown lawns. Barbecues and open fires are not allowed, plants must not be touched, and plant material may not be taken home.
- Opening-hours notes
- In 2026, the garden is open 2.5.-27.9.2026 Wed-Sun 11-18; Mon-Tue closed. The gate is open 11-18, and after 18 visitors can leave by 20 through a turnstile, but the turnstile does not accommodate strollers, wheelchairs, or bicycles. The garden is closed for Midsummer 19.-21.6.2026.
- Booking notes
- Booking is not needed for a normal self-guided garden visit. Groups, guided tours, and events follow Luomus' separate instructions.
- Price notes
- In 2026, admission is 7 euros for adults, 5 euros reduced, and 4 euros for students or ages 5-18. Children under 5 enter free, excluding daycare and other groups. The Museum Card is accepted, and Luomus lists separate free admission days for 2026.
- Age notes
- Best for children around 3-12 who can walk in an outdoor garden and look at plants without touching them. With younger children, the visit works best as a shorter round with a snack break and a clear route.
- Seasonal notes
- Kumpula is a summer-season outdoor garden. In 2026, the regular season runs from early May to late September, and different plants are at their best throughout the season.
- Weather notes
- The visit is almost entirely outdoors, so plan it around the weather. Warm and dry weather works best. In rain, cold, or strong wind, the garden can still be walked through, but snack breaks and children's energy need more planning.
