The Mannerheim Museum is in Gustaf Mannerheim's former private home in Kaivopuisto. It is a historical home museum whose collections include household objects, photographs, archive material, art, furniture, souvenirs, hunting memorabilia, clothing, home textiles, and personal items. For families, the museum works best when the child can listen to a guide, move calmly through the rooms, and discuss themes around war, leadership, and Finnish history with an adult.

- Accessibility
- The museum is not fully accessible. The route to the main door is accessible, but the door is very narrow and not suitable for electric wheelchairs. The first floor is wheelchair accessible, but the second floor can only be reached by stairs. The ground floor is reached through the courtyard and has a wheelchair-accessible toilet. Strollers are left in the courtyard or customer facilities on the ground floor, so the visit is not stroller-friendly.
Plan your visit
- Practical notes
- During normal opening hours, visits are always guided, and the authentic home museum limits the group size to 12 people per guide. Book the tour in advance, because visitors with advance tickets or reservations are prioritised and admission cannot be guaranteed without a reservation. Backpacks, large bags, liquids, food, tripods, selfie sticks, spiked shoes, and strollers are not allowed on the museum floors.
- Opening-hours notes
- Regular opening is Fri-Sun 11:00-17:00, and the last guided tour starts by 16:00. From June to August the museum is also open on Thursdays 11:00-17:00. The museum also lists the last Thursday of each month as a self-guided evening 16:00-19:00. In 2026 exceptions, the museum is closed 3.-5.4.2026, 30.4.-1.5.2026, and 19.-21.6.2026; check the online shop before going.
- Booking notes
- Advance booking is not formally mandatory in every situation, but the museum recommends buying a ticket in advance and says admission cannot be guaranteed without a reservation. School groups, private visits, and tours outside normal hours are arranged separately through visit@mannerheim-museo.fi.
- Price notes
- Adult admission is EUR 16, and the reduced ticket for pensioners, students, and unemployed visitors is EUR 12. Children under 12 enter free. Museum Card gives free admission during regular opening hours; the Finnish price list also mentions Helsinki Card and ICOM card.
- Age notes
- Best for children and young people around 8-15 who can manage a guided home-museum tour and are interested in history, old objects, photographs, or biographies. Younger children may find the visit quiet and adult-led.
- Seasonal notes
- The museum is a year-round indoor destination, but the visit needs to be planned around limited weekend and Thursday hours plus exceptions.
- Weather notes
- The museum tour is indoors and works in rain, cold, and windy weather. Still account for arrival on Kaivopuisto's sloping streets and possible waiting on the ground floor or through the outdoor route in slippery or bad weather.
