Pentala Archipelago Museum is a summer archipelago destination in Espoo's Suvisaaristo. A normal visit combines a boat trip, an old fishing-farm museum area, indoor and outdoor museum buildings, and Pentala's island nature. Families can explore the exhibition and museum shop in Villa Rosengård, the fisherman's cottage, the fishing exhibition in the shore building, and the yard. Gurli's House is a home museum that can be visited only on guided tours. From the museum area, families can continue onto the 2.3 km nature trail towards Lake Pentalanjärvi and Diksand beach if children have enough energy.

- Accessibility
- The official accessibility information says the Pentala museum area is only partly accessible. The island can be reached from the archipelago boat by a movable ramp, and it is about 100 metres from the pier to the information building. Paths in the museum area are sand paths, the route from the pier slopes gently uphill, and rocks and lawns can be slippery in rain. Villa Rosengård, Cafe Pentala, and the museum-area toilets can be reached by ramp, but museum buildings have high thresholds and stairs. Gurli's House has no barrier-free access. The museum area has an accessible toilet and childcare room.
Plan your visit
- Practical notes
- Pentala is best planned as a small summer outing, not a quick museum stop. The archipelago boat to Pentala leaves from Suomenoja via Suinonsalmi, and it also runs between Soukka Klobben and Pentala. Check the timetable, return boat, departure pier, and weather on Espoo's scheduled archipelago boats page before going: https://www.espoo.fi/en/sports-and-nature/archipelago/scheduled-archipelago-boats. Own snacks can be eaten in Lill-Stugan during museum opening hours or outdoors, and Cafe Pentala is in the museum area. Drinking water is available from the tap outside the toilet building. The nature trail has no rubbish bins.
- Opening-hours notes
- The official 2026 page says the museum is open in summer 2026. For the season, it lists 2.6.-30.8.2026 Tue-Fri 10:00-17:00 and Sat-Sun 10:30-17:00. The museum is also open during Midsummer 19.6.-20.6.2026 10:30-17:00. Check the current page before going because archipelago boats do not run on Mondays and weather or passenger numbers can affect schedules.
- Booking notes
- A normal museum-area visit does not require booking. Gurli's House can be visited only on guided tours at specified times, and same-day tour reservations can be made by phone following the museum's instructions. Archipelago boat tickets are bought on the boat and cannot be purchased in advance.
- Price notes
- Entry to the museum area is free. A guided tour of Gurli's House costs EUR 10 for adults, EUR 8 with a discount ticket, and EUR 5 per person in groups of at least 10; under-18s enter free. The Museum Card and Kaikukortti are accepted for Gurli's House. On the archipelago boat, travel to Iso Vasikkasaari and Pentala costs EUR 7 return, EUR 3.50 with a discount ticket, and children under 7 travel free with an adult.
- Age notes
- Best for children around 5-12 who can manage the boat trip, moving around the yard, and short museum stops. With younger children, the outing can work if you keep it as a calm snack-and-yard day. The nature trail, Diksand beach, and Lake Pentalanjärvi shores require adult supervision; Pentala has no supervised beach.
- Seasonal notes
- Pentala is a summer-season destination. The 2026 museum season and the dedicated museum route to Pentala run 2.6.-30.8.2026, while wider summer archipelago boat traffic runs on different routes 14.5.-13.9.2026. The museum season, boat routes, and cafe services should be checked again before a new season.
- Weather notes
- The outing is weather-sensitive because the boat trip, yard, and possible nature trail are outdoors. In rain, indoor spaces, Lill-Stugan, and the cafe help, but sand paths, lawns, rocks, and waiting can become harder. In windy weather, check the archipelago boat status before going.
