Suomenlinna Museum is located in the Suomenlinna Centre in the middle of the sea fortress. The permanent exhibition presents more than 270 years of fortress history, the dry dock, and the everyday life and celebrations of residents and soldiers. Families can look at objects, tools, weapons, and ammunition found at Suomenlinna, and watch the approximately 25-minute Suomenlinna Experience short film that gives context for the fortress story.

The building has an accessible toilet, but the entrance door is heavy and more accessible entry may require staff help.
Plan your visit
- Practical notes
- The museum works well as an indoor anchor during a Suomenlinna outing. Allow time for the HSL ferry and a short outdoor walk on the island, and check the day's opening hours in the Suomenlinna calendar before going.
- Opening-hours notes
- The official museum page lists year-round opening as daily 10:30-17:00 and June-August opening as daily 10:00-18:00. The museum is closed 24.-25.12. Check possible exceptions in the Suomenlinna events and opening-hours calendar before going.
- Booking notes
- A normal family visit does not need a separate booking, but tickets can be bought in advance from the online shop. Groups are asked to inform the museum of their arrival in advance.
- Price notes
- Museum tickets cost EUR 10 for adults, EUR 8 for students and pensioners, and EUR 5 for children aged 7-17. Museum Card and Helsinki Card holders enter free. School groups aged 7-18 visiting with a teacher are free.
- Age notes
- Best for children around 6-12 who can follow objects, maps, fortress history, and a 25-minute film. With younger children, keep the visit short and combine it with time outdoors on the island.
- Seasonal notes
- The museum operates year-round. In summer, Suomenlinna usually has more services and longer museum hours; in winter, the outing depends more on the ferry timetable and island weather.
- Weather notes
- The museum visit itself is indoors, so it works for rainy and cold days. The ferry journey and walk on the island are still exposed to the weather, especially on windy days.
