Glims Farmstead Museum is an old farm and inn environment in Karvasmäki. Families can move around the yard, look inside historic buildings, and learn what farm life was like in different periods. The permanent exhibition tells the long history of Glims and the area, while changing exhibitions, work demonstrations, guided tours, and events often follow the rural year. In summer there may be domestic animals in the yard, sometimes even chickens, so the visit works best as a calm mix of indoor rooms and outdoor stops.

- Accessibility
- The official accessibility information says the yard has grass, dirt paths, and slopes, and the old buildings have stairs or thresholds. From the parking area to the gate there is about 50 metres of flat dirt road, and two accessible parking spaces are outside the gate. Drop-off transport can stop in the courtyard. A movable ramp can be used for the cabin, but an electric wheelchair can only access the cabin entrance hall. The museum has an accessible toilet.
Plan your visit
- Practical notes
- Glims is more of a short or half-day museum visit than a large full-day destination. With children, it is worth leaving time for the yard and choosing the buildings or exhibitions that interest you most. The official programme changes by season, so work demonstrations, children's Sundays, and guided tours should be checked separately in the event calendar. The museum has a cafe and museum shop.
- Opening-hours notes
- The official page lists summer-season opening from 2.5.-31.8. as Tue-Fri 10:00-17:00 and Sat-Sun 11:00-17:00; closed Mondays. In the winter season, 1.9.-30.4., the museum is open Tue-Fri 10:00-16:00 and Sun 11:00-16:00; closed Mondays and Saturdays. Check exception days before going.
- Booking notes
- A normal museum visit does not require booking. Groups, guided tours, and separate programmes are booked or checked following the museum's instructions.
- Price notes
- Adult admission is EUR 6, and discounted or group admission is EUR 3. Under-18s enter free. In 2026, admission is free for everyone on Wednesdays, and the Museum Card and Kaikukortti are accepted.
- Age notes
- Works broadly for families, but the best fit is usually around ages 3-10, when a child can manage the yard and short indoor stops. With toddlers, the visit can work as a calm yard outing, but the stairs, thresholds, and museum objects in the old buildings require close adult presence.
- Seasonal notes
- Open year-round, but summer and winter opening hours differ. The summer season is the clearest time for a family visit because of the yard, plants, and possible domestic animals; in winter the visit focuses more on the buildings, exhibitions, and seasonal programme.
- Weather notes
- Best in dry or mild weather because the yard is an important part of the visit. In rain or freezing weather, the indoor rooms help, but moving between buildings, dirt paths, and slopes can be awkward with a stroller or mobility aid.
