Glimpses of Light and Hope presents the history of Suomenlinna Church from the 1700s to the present day. The self-guided route runs through the church courtyard and indoor spaces, with old photographs, documents, and stories from the church's life as a garrison church, Lutheran church, and lighthouse visible from the sea. Basic exhibition information is in Finnish, Swedish, and English, and QR codes open extra content in several languages. Children have their own QR content, where history is opened through colourful images and animations.

- Accessibility
- Suomenlinna can be challenging with prams and mobility aids: routes include stone, gravel, sand, elevation changes, and lateral slopes. A slightly easier route from the main pier passes by the church, but exact step-free access for the exhibition route indoors and in the courtyard was not confirmed. Ask Suomenlinna Visitor Centre for current route advice if step-free access is important.
Plan your visit
- Practical notes
- The church is about 200 metres from Suomenlinna's main pier. Bring a phone if you want to use the QR content. The route is self-guided, so adults should pace the visit according to the child's energy and, if useful, combine the exhibition with a short island walk.
- Opening-hours notes
- The exhibition is open 4.6.-30.9.2026 from Monday to Friday at 11:00-18:00. Check the Suomenlinna Church page before going, because the church can be closed or reserved during ceremonies and events.
- Booking notes
- A self-guided exhibition visit does not require booking. The church ticket can be bought on site, and the Suomenlinna Museums and Church pass can be bought in advance.
- Price notes
- Admission is EUR 5 for adults. Under-18s enter free of charge.
- Age notes
- Best for roughly school-age children who are interested in history, old images, the fortress, and the church's lighthouse story. Children's QR content helps younger visitors too, but some history relates to wars and the prison camp, so adults should choose a suitable level of discussion for the child.
- Seasonal notes
- This is a temporary exhibition from June to the end of September 2026. It should be rechecked before the end of September and archived after the exhibition period.
- Weather notes
- Part of the exhibition is indoors, but the route and arrival to the island are outdoors. Wind, rain, and cool sea air can feel strong in Suomenlinna, so bring weather-appropriate clothing for children.
