Vantaa City Museum is in the old Tikkurila station, a red-brick station building completed in 1862. Through changing exhibitions, the museum tells the history of Vantaa, its cultural heritage, and its built and natural cultural environment. The current exhibition is Tales of the Primeval Rock - from Mammoths to the Present Day, open 2.10.2025-30.8.2026. It is designed especially for child visitors and is based on a children's nonfiction book; it takes visitors from the Ice Age and Stone Age toward the present through archaeological finds, images, and story. For families, the museum works as a calm, free indoor stop where children and adults can explore local history through objects, the old station building, and the exhibition story.

- Accessibility
- The museum has two exhibition floors, with a lift between them. The main entrance has steps, but there is a more accessible entrance behind the building, opened by ringing the bell, asking staff, or calling. The route has thresholds over 2 cm and a heavy door; the accessible toilet has a baby-changing table and potty.

- Practical notes
- The museum is in a historic building and the exhibition rooms are fairly small, so a calm pace works best with children. Weekday mornings often bring school groups; weekday afternoons are often calmer. On the last Thursday of each month from 16:00-18:00, the museum holds Quiet Hours, with no guided tours, group visits, or events. Photography is allowed, and belongings can be left at the cloakroom or in a lockable locker. You can eat your own snacks in the waiting room if no workshop or event is taking place there; the museum does not have a cafe.
- Opening-hours notes
- 2.10.2025-30.8.2026: Mon closed, Tue-Fri 11-18, Sat-Sun 11-16. Closed 19.6.2026-21.6.2026. Check exceptions before going.
- Booking notes
- Booking is not needed for a normal museum visit. Free public guided tours are arranged at least once a week, with times checked in the event calendar. Groups can book their own guided visit by email; guided workshops should be treated as event or group visits.
- Price notes
- Entry to the museum's exhibitions is always free. You do not need to show a Museum Card, but the visit can be logged in the Museum Card app at the information desk if you want.
- Age notes
- Best for children around 4-10 who can explore exhibitions with an adult. The current Tales of the Primeval Rock exhibition is especially good for children interested in the Stone Age, mammoths, archaeology, stories, or local history.
- Seasonal notes
- The museum works year-round, but exhibitions change. The current Tales of the Primeval Rock exhibition is listed as open until 30.8.2026, so check the exhibition situation in late summer.
- Weather notes
- A good rainy-day, windy-day, and cold-day option because the visit is indoors. On a hot day, the historic building may feel warmer than usual.
