The Pihlajasaari Midsummer Bonfire gives families a traditional island Midsummer atmosphere by the sea. The City of Helsinki says the bonfire is lit around 20:00 if weather and wildfire-warning conditions allow. A Midsummer visit to Pihlajasaari is a self-guided outdoor outing: the island has beaches, rocky shores, restaurant and beach-bar services and fireplaces for self-service grilling, and the ferry runs on an extended Midsummer Eve timetable.

- Accessibility
- Pihlajasaari is reached by ferry, and the island has sand roads, beaches and rocks. Prams may work in parts of the island, but the island outing and getting near the bonfire are not fully accessible.
Plan your visit
- Practical notes
- Reach the island by JT-Line ferry from Merisatama in front of Cafe Carusell or from Ruoholahti beside Restaurant Faro. Check JT-Line's Midsummer Eve timetable, the last return departures and the Finnish Meteorological Institute's wildfire warnings before leaving. Expect walking, weather-appropriate clothing and close adult supervision near beaches and the bonfire.
- Schedule notes
- The bonfire is lit around 20:00 if no wildfire warning is in force. No exact end time has been published; the listed event window is for the bonfire visit, and families should check the same-day return ferry timetable with JT-Line.
- Booking notes
- No registration is needed for the bonfire. Ferry tickets can be bought in advance from JT-Line's online shop or, if needed, on board; the operator recommends advance purchase for smoother travel.
- Price notes
- There is no separate admission fee for the bonfire. In practice, families usually reach the island by paid ferry: JT-Line's return ticket to Pihlajasaari costs EUR 8 for adults and EUR 5 for children aged 7-17 and discount groups. Children under 7 travel free with an adult. Restaurant, beach-bar and other services cost extra.
- Age notes
- This is not a children's programme event. It is best for school-age children and teens who can manage an evening ferry and island outing, possible crowds and an environment where the bonfire and beaches require close adult supervision.
